Introduction to the roller hockey regulations

—The roller hockey is a cooperative-opposition collective sport on roller skates in which two teams have to score as many goals as possible with a stick in a given time.

It was invented by Edward Crawford in England at the end of the s. XIX. In 1924 the International Skating Federation was created, which regulates both this sport and figure skating, speed skating and line hockey. The first world championship was held in 1926, with England being the first champion. —The country with the best track records in history so far is Spain with 15 gold, 12 silver, 7 bronze and 3 fourth places.

Pitch

  • 40 × 20 m rectangle.
  • Goal measures: Outdoors: 1,948 x1,124 m. Interiors: 1.7 × 1.05 m.
  • Measurements of the fences: 1 m high with a wooden board 2 cm thick and 20 cm high.

Stick, ball and skates

  • Stick : Made mainly of wood, although there are also other materials such as plastic or fiberglass, kevlar and carbon, with the following dimensions: Maximum length: 115 cm, minimum length: 90 cm, Width: 5 cm. Maximum weight 500 gr.
  • Ball : Different color to the court and the boundary lines. Weight 155 g and circumference of 23 cm.
  • Skates : They must be axles, with wheels with a diameter greater than 3 cm. Brake block in the front part, less than 5 cm in diameter.

Track player protections

  • —Accessories: Shin guards, knee pads, shell, gloves and helmet (optional).
  • —The shin guards must fit inside the socks and must not exceed 5 cm in thickness.
  • —The protections cannot be metallic.

Goalkeeper protections

  • They are mandatory.
  • —Accessories: Shin guards, knee pads, elbow pads, cup, gloves, mitten, helmet and bib.
  • —Maximum measurements authorized for the goalkeeper’s defense: Ankle width 30 cm. Knee width and above: 35 cm. Total height: 75 cm. Maximum thickness throughout its length: 5 cm. Gloves: max. 25 cm, thickness max. 6 cm.
  • They can wear a mask.

Team:

  • —Teams can be made up of a maximum of 10 players.
  • —5 substitutes and 5 starters of which one must be a goalkeeper and 4 field players.
  • —For a game to start, each team must have a minimum of 5 players, including 2 goalkeepers.
  • In addition to the players, on the bench there can be 2 team delegates, 1 head coach, 1 assistant coach, 1 doctor, 1 masseuse and 1 utility worker.

Arbitration

  • 3 referees: 2 main and 1 assistant referee.
  • —1 timekeeper.
  • —Assistant referee and timekeeper located at the Official Table.
  • —Equipment: Shirt or T-shirt (with the official insignia), pants, socks and sneakers with rubber soles (white).
  • —Instruments of the referees: Whistle, cards (12 × 9 cm): one blue (Two-minute expulsion and direct free kick) and another red (Final expulsion and direct free kick), pen and record sheet of disciplinary actions, clock or stopwatch and handkerchief.

Duration and times

  • —The useful playing time of a roller hockey game is 40 minutes, divided into two periods of 20 minutes each.
  • —In different competitions held both nationally and internationally, the playing times may be different with the condition that the limit of 50 minutes is not exceeded.
  • —In all categories, a 10-minute break must be granted between the end of the first half and the start of the second.
